Introduction

Why do we read? I wish I could give you some kind of scientific explanation about why we enjoy hallucinating fiction, however, all I can do is tell you why I like to read.

For me, reading is escapism. I put my phone aside, along with any real world expectations and I let the words take me to a new realm. I enjoy being able to shut off from anything remotely difficult to just emerce myself in a story. To just be amongst a different version of reality.

Escapism isn't my only reason for loving literature, I also adore storytelling. The power of stories is underestimated. Important real world arguments and issues are disguised as fiction and intertwined with a fun plot and intruiging characters. You are accidentally learning and forming your own views on important matters. Literature, like any media, is politically motivated; this can help inform us, the reader, of what is going on around us without having to view devastating news reports.

I usually read thriller, horror, contemporary romance and classsics. I am very much a mood reader, letting my next read be determined by how I am feeling that day. I used to set up goals for myself, however, I believe that once you quantify literature, you lose the fluidity and freedom of the hobby. It has the risk of becoming a chore. Instead, I read when I feel like it. I do still track and rate books however, using Storygraph, but I do not set a reading goal.

I really wanted to write a blog; this was something I had written on my Notion yearly goal tracker. I was unsure what direction i wanted to take it in, then I finished a great audiobook and desperately wanted to talk to someone about it. That was when the idea for this was formed.

This blog is an outlet. Not only for me, but for you, the reader. I will share books I have read and my thoughts on them. I will share short essays, analyising literature. I will also discuss any recent book news that I am eager to investigate.

Please comment your views and opinions. This is a community for bookworms to feel safe to express themselves. Also, use this space to share recommendations, I am always open to reading something new.

Thank you for joining the book club ;)
